Electric Fence Charger Strength
If you want to know more about charger strength before making a selection, here's some basic information: The electric fence chargers we sell (all low impedance) are considered safe because of the brief pulsed nature of the charge and the small amount of electricity released. When possible, it is best to use a relatively weak electric fence charger (less than 1 joule) to protect barrier fences from horses that like to lean or chew on them, and also to power small temporary paddocks and corrals. Use a stronger (1 to 2 joule) charger to electrify moveable interior pasture fences and short to mid-length electric fences where weeds do not pose a major problem. Employ a more powerful (over 2 joule) charger to electrify large permanent electric fences, to deter escape-prone horses, and to cope with heavy weed burdens or other difficult conditions. For more on how to deal with adverse conditions see our videos for installing electric fences.
