About Our Insulators for Round Posts (general)

With occasional exceptions, most of the smaller round posts used in electric horse and livestock fences today are made of fiberglass. There’s no problem finding insulators for small fiberglass posts. We have screw-on insulators for 2-inch polytape and round posts up to a half-inch in diameter; and we also have screw-on insulators for all other conductors and round posts up to 7/8" in diameter. The only real challenge is finding insulators for the largest (1" to 2" diameter) fiberglass posts. Few insulators are designed for such posts, and those that are cannot handle wide (1.5" to 2") polytape. However, fiberglass is good strong stuff and can be drilled. Therefore, to take care of these cases we recommend using insulators with two holes for nails or screws, drilling two holes into the fiberglass post at the right place, and using wood screws to firmly attach the insulator to the post. In cases where an especially firm attachment is needed, one may wish to drill all the way through the post and use nuts and bolts instead of screws. Details on the proper insulators, screws, and nuts/bolts to use are provided at appropriate places in our listings.
