Polybraids (Mega Braid and Electrobraid™)
The difference between the polyropes and polybraids is that polyropes are generally made from twisted strands of polyethylene while polybraids consist of braided polyester fibers—sometimes woven around a core of polypropylene, as in the case of the two braids offered here. One of these braids (02-62B), commonly termed “Mega braid”) is 0.3 inches thick. It has 8 large stainless steel conductor wires, a breaking strength of 1500 pounds, a blue tracer wire for improved visibility, and a limited 20-year warranty. The other braid (02-64, Electrobraid™) has thick copper wires for high conductivity combined with great durability and strength. Well-suited to use on long fences, Electrobraid comes with a limited 25-year warranty. Electrobraid will reliably carry an electric charge for over 8 miles.
Electrobraid™ (product 02-64 above) uses copper wires instead of stainless steel wires to greatly improve its ability to carry the electric charge. In order to avoid (or minimize) contact between unlike metals (which promotes corrosion), we offer everal products in the table below that have been designed especially to work with Electrobraid™.
