Field Guardian Highlander (FGS050) Low Impedance Electric Fence Charger, UL Listed, 0.5 Joules
The FGS050 (a match for the Power Wizard 500S) can power medium to long electric fence for horses and other livestock and can deal with significant weed loads. It is also a good choice among the solar-powered chargers for powering fences designed to keep out deer; to exclude large animals such as javelinas, feral pigs, and bison; and to deter predators including foxes, coyotes, wolves, mountain lions, and bears. The FGS050 comes with a solar panel and a 12-volt battery inside its case. Voltage data: This charger keeps 4000 to 6000 volts on the fence when the weed burden is light to moderate (providing a 200 to 500 ohm path to the ground). This voltage falls to 2-3000 (still enough to reliably shock horses) when the weed burden becomes heavy, providing a 100-ohm path to the ground. Joule range: The FGS050 puts out 0.4 to 0.5 joules over circuits with resistances ranging from 100 to 500 ohms. (For more about joules see Charger Safety, Horse Fences, and Joules). Other animals: The FGS050 is useful for containing all types of livestock (including cattle, pigs, sheep, goats, and exotics), for keeping out deer (on both baited and unbaited fences), and for excluding a wide range of other animals (including foxes, coyotes, wolves, javelinas, feral pigs, mountain lions, bears, and bison). General data: The weatherproof and portable FGS050 is designed to provide peak joule output under difficult fence conditions and employs modular circuitry for quick and easy repair. Features include built-in lightning protection (additional protection by means of a properly grounded lightning choke is recommended for long fences), a 3-year warranty against manufacturing defects and lightning damage, and a flashing light that indicates when the electric fence charger and its immediate fence connections are working properly.
