Field Guardian Explorer (FGS-025) Low Impedance Electric Fence Charger, UL Listed, 0.25 Joules (Actual 0.3-0.4 Joules)
The Explorer (a strong 0.25 joule charger and a match for the Power Wizard 200S) can power medium to long fences for horses and other livestock and can cope with significant weed loads. The unit comes with a solar panel and a 12-volt battery inside its case. Voltage data: The Explorer will maintain 4,000 volts or more on a line with a slight (500 ohm) weed burden, and will provide 2,000 volts or more (enough to shock horses) in the face of a substantial weed load providing a 100 to 200 ohm path to the ground. Joule range: This charger will put out a 0.4 joule pulse on a 200 to 500 ohm circuit and a 0.3 joule pulse on a 100-ohm circuit. (For more about joules see Charger Safety, Horse Fences, and Joules). Other animals: The Explorer maintains high enough voltage and shocking power to keep out deer with either a baited or an unbaited electric fence. It is also good at powering medium to long fences for containing cattle, pigs, sheep, goats, and other livestock. Its chief limitation is that the 0.3 to 0.4 joule jolt administered may not be strong enough to put off a really determined animal. On the other hand, this relatively low joule rating makes the Explorer suitable for dealing with smaller animals—specifically for containing dogs and protecting gardens. If need be the Explorer can operate for over 3 weeks in total darkness. General data: The weatherproof and portable Explorer comes with built-in lightning protection, advanced engineering that provides peak output under difficult conditions, and a 3-year warranty against manufacturing defects and lightning damage. A flashing light indicates when the electric fence charger and its immediate fence connections are working properly.
