Parmak Magnum 12 U.O. (MAG-12-U.O.), Low Impedance Electric Fence Charger, UL Listed, 0.5 Joules
Parmak’s Magnum 12 U.O. is weatherproof, portable, and comes in a case with a lifetime manufacturer’s guarantee against rust. This electric fence charger, which works off a 12-volt battery (not included) is a good choice for powering electric fences that enclose pastures for horses and other livestock. If one uses the standard electric fence model (a single perfectly connected 12.5 gauge steel wire), the Magnum 12 U.O. can power 30 miles of fence. A 14 amp-hour 12-volt battery (see item 01-32 in the table) can keep this charger operating for at least 3 weeks, while a large 12 volt 60 amp-hour battery can keep it going for 3 months. We do not offer large “deep cycle” batteries (the kind needed) on this website, but they can be obtained at www.ebatteriestogo.com or at any local store that sells boat or golf cart batteries. Voltage and joule data: Parmak reports that the Magnum 12 U.O. puts out 9600 volts on an open circuit. It also states that where weeds provide a minor (500 ohm) path to the ground it can maintain 6100 volts on the line; and where the weed burden is major (providing a 100-ohm path to the ground) it will keep 3100 volts on the line, substantially more than the 2000 volts needed to reliably shock horses. The MAG-12-U.O. is rated by us at about 0.5 joules. Other animals: The MAG-12-U.O. is suitable for containing sheep, goats, and other livestock. General data: The Magnum 12 U.O. comes with instructions and a one-year manufacturer’s warranty covering defects and lightning damage. It features advanced solid state circuitry (ferrite 100% solid state inverter circuitry) and a performance meter on its face that indicates whether the charger and its immediate connections are operating properly.
