Introduction
Protective electric fences are not really “fences” at all. Rather, they are one or more runs of charged polywire or other conductor that are placed on a barrier fence (usually made of wood or vinyl). Their purpose is to protect the barrier fence by keeping horses or other animals from leaning on the barrier fence or chewing on it. These simple fences consist of a low-key electric fence charger, connectors to reach from the electric fence charger to the conductor on the fence, insulators to hold this conductor a bit out from the fence, the conductor itself, and an appropriate ground rod or other grounding system.
